Amy Lorentz once
got a dog and went to a training class. Even though
she and her dog worked and worked, the dog wasn't learning much. Some
of the other dogs in the class were improving, but not Amy's dog. This
was puzzling, so she started reading every training book she could
find, talking to people whose dogs were well-trained, and attending
training seminars and classes in different styles.
That was more than 10 years ago. Now her accomplishments include: |
* Obedience
titles (UKC-CD and ASCA-CD), including 2 CD titles on that
first "untrainable" dog mentioned above.
* Trained 3
working Service Dogs for disabled handlers
* Founding
member, Boise River Obedience Club, the area's first UKC
club (the United Kennel Club welcomes all breeds and breed mixes to
compete in
obedience)
* Studied
with Fred Hassan, Robin MacFarland, Behesha (Grist) Doan,
Martin Deeley, Pat Nolan, Margot Woods, Tony Ancheta, and Chad Mackin.
* Foster home
for dogs from Idaho Humane Society (when she lived in
Boise).
* Currently
fostering dogs from Almost Home Pet Foundation, as well as
maintaining their web site.
* Consulting
trainer for Belly Rubs Basset Hound rescue.
* Canine
therapy volunteer for Hospice of Chattanooga
with two dogs working as therapy dogs certified by Therapy
Dogs Internaltional (TDI)
* Professional member of the International Association of
Canine Professionals (IACP) |
